Newborn photoshoot

Good evening everyone, I need some advice. (Please forward this post to ANYONE who could help me!!). I am still a novice in photography, but a friend asked me to do her sons newborn photos. I only have two lens for my canon rebel t3, the kit lens and my telephoto lens. Obviously the telephoto lens is out, so I will have to use the kit lens. I have also just purchase photoshop elements 11, but I haven’t ever used it before, so it might take some learning. My fear is that I don’t really know what to expect. I would love for someone to give me some advice on how a typical newborn shoot might go for them. I don’t know how much I need to “pose” the baby, or how much I can get the parents to do. I am not super comfortable around newborns (I’ve never been around that many), so I don’t want to hurt him.

I’m also a little unsure of how to set things up. Momma has a soft blanket she wants to use, and white sheets for backdrops… but I don’t have anything. I know pretty much only that the baby should be fed before I come, and that the room should be warm. HELP 😦

Inventory photographs

Last week my husband and I tore up our vinyl floors and laid down ceramic tile. We LITERALLY (not even improperly using that word for once) got up went to work, came home and ate, and then worked until 11 or 12 every night last week. Needless to say, my photoblog didn’t get much action. I have some fun pictures to share from a local antique/craft store that I visited the last weekend of April. My friend was recently admitted as a new partner in business there. I told her I’d be happy to come out and take some pictures for their facebook page.

I struggled with some things in this store. The lighting. I couldn’t figure out what to set my camera on. I also had to “think on my feet”. I didn’t want to be in their store for hours, so I needed to find pictures to take without being annoying and overstaying my welcome. I would LOVE some serious feedback in the following three pictures because I know they aren’t perfect. I tried really hard, but I’m still new.

This was shot with a Canon EOS Rebel T3. Used the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II lens. ISO was set at 1600, 18mm, f/8 and 1/100 shutter speed.

Missing

Sorry I’ve been missing. 🙂 I was just telling my hubby how much I couldn’t believe how time had gotten away from me this week. I’ve been really invested in a book series I’ve been reading and haven’t been tinkering with my camera. I think taking a shot a day was a little over ambitious, but I hope to get a little better. This weekend I am going to a local shop that is having somewhat of a ‘grand reopening’ and a friend of mine has been admitted as a new partner in business, so I’m going to take some pictures for them to use on their facebook page. I think it should be really fun because its an antique store, but they also make some products as well, like button ear-rings and things like that. I can’t quite classify it. Also, my friend had her baby boy this week, and so in a few short weeks I’ll get to do his newborn pictures. He came early so it might be as much as a month or six weeks away (I’m not sure how long he’ll have to stay in the hospital). But I am so excited. I feel like I have to thank God for all these wonderful opportunities he’s bringing my way. I know I wouldn’t have had them if he hadn’t put the right people in my life at the right time. And I LOVE the support I get on this community. It’s so crazy that people just come to my blog and find my pictures. That is aboslutely amazing to me. I’ve had several “written” blogs in my life and never had any sort of feedback from the general population… so the fact that I found it with my photography is just amazing. Truly feeling blessed this morning.

Anyone want to give me some homework? I’d love a project to do! 🙂 Like “Take a picture with the theme of change” or something. Let me know. Thanks for all the continued support!!
